Bayesian optimization accelerates cell therapy process development

We're thrilled to announce the publication of our latest article, "Bayesian cell therapy process optimization," authored by our colleagues in collaboration with the Biovism lab at Ghent University.

Published in Biotechnology and Bioengineering, this paper demonstrates how applying noisy Bayesian optimization to cell therapy process development can significantly reduce costs and improve process efficiencies. In short, we demonstrate:

-       Up to 70% cost and time reduction compared to benchmark

-       Doubling process efficiency, while maintaining high purity

-       50% reduction in experimental effort

Cell therapy process development traditionally relies heavily on physical experimentation due to the complexity of digital approaches. However, our research showcases how Bayesian optimization, rooted in machine learning and mathematical optimization principles, offers a revolutionary black-box approach. With minimal experimental input and no mechanistic knowledge required, this method presents a game-changing solution for cutting costs and timelines in process development.
